Cosy up in the kitchen

The leaves are starting to turn, we’ve dug out our knitwear and autumn is well and truly here. So, with the nights drawing in, where better to keep warm and cosy than your kitchen?

What makes the kitchen so special?

For many of us, it’s already the hub of the home. It’s where we cook and eat, but it’s often so much more than that. It’s where we come together with family after a long day. Where we talk about our triumphs and troubles. Where we make a quick snack or spend a slow Sunday cooking a roast. It’s where we gather at parties. It’s where we laugh, cry, gossip and relax. It’s where we live our real lives.

The role of the kitchen has changed

It used to be solely a place to prepare food. However, particularly over the last few years, we’ve started to use our spaces a little differently. The effects of lockdown meant many of us stopped going out to eat and switched to entertaining at home. Neighbours now pop by on a week night to catch up over a glass of wine. Saturday nights are spent having long, leisurely dinners in the kitchen with friends. Sundays are for having a home-cooked meal with the family before the mad rush of the week begins again.

Lots of us have even changed the style of our kitchens. We’ve knocked down walls and created cooking, dining and living spaces that all work together. It means families aren’t separated in the house any more. Instead, they’re all in one room: Dad’s in the kitchen cooking up a storm, Mum’s catching up on emails at the dining table and the kids are watching their favourite programmes. It’s all happening in one place and families are creating memories in their own homes.

A sanctuary for everyone

Creating delicious food in the kitchen isn’t just about making sure your body is healthy – it’s about making sure your mind is healthy, too. Baking and cooking is known to be relaxing – and sometimes meditative – for many people. Cooking for friends and family can often mean putting real love into the meal, which can increase your happiness and make your loved ones feel taken care of.

It’s even been proven that people who often cook for, and eat with, others feel happier and more satisfied with their lives. It’s all about bonding – if you eat with friends and family, you’re spending quality time creating stronger relationships and emotional ties with those closest to you.

Choose a cosy colour palette

Our Tahiti range is perfect for bringing the soft hues of autumn into your home. Based on the elements of earth, air, water and fire, their colour scheme and the beautiful wood they’re crafted from truly bring the warmth of nature into your kitchen. Each set is designed so the pepper mill has a slightly different tone to the salt, so they don’t just look lovely together – they’re easy to tell apart, too.
